MUSICIAN SCHOLARSHIPS

Musicians Institute offers music scholarship opportunities for students ranging from recently graduated high school seniors to continuing college students transferring from other institutions. MI is proud to offer tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships every quarter, in a wide variety of different programs and disciplines!

Please be advised that all entering MI college students are automatically considered for merit-based or full-ride music scholarships (early scholarships) as part of the admissions process. If you are selected as a scholarship winner, a scholarship award letter will be included in your welcome packet along with your acceptance letter. If you are not selected as a winner, you won’t be notified separately; however, you are encouraged to submit a separate online scholarship application to be considered with the regular scholarship review.

MI offers a full range of degrees, including Bachelor of Music, Associate of Arts and Associate of Science, as well as Certificates and alternative programs.

ARTIST PRODUCER ENTREPRENEUR SCHOLARSHIP

Artist Producer and Entrepreneur (A.P.E.) Scholarships are available to applicants newly enrolling in the A.P.E. Program who demonstrate outstanding talent.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Available to International Students and US Citizens.
  • May be applied to the Artist Producer Entrepreneur Program only. (MI Select program is not eligible.)
  • Available to students enrolling into the program for the first time. 

APPLICATION CHECKLIST

  1. Audio Recording

Containing the 2-3 songs that you submitted with your original application to the program, plus a minimum of two or maximum of five more.
Accepted formats: wav, mp3, aac

Detailed credit list for any songs performed or submitted with your application.
Include information that lists who performed each instrument, who engineered, and who produced.

AUDIO ENGINEERING & STUDIO RECORDING SCHOLARSHIP

Musicians Institute offers the Audio Engineering & Studio Recording Scholarship to newly enrolling and continuing students in order to encourage the educational development of audio engineers and audio industry professionals.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Available to U.S. citizens and permanent residents only.
  • Based on demonstrated financial need as well as academic history.
  • May be applied to any Musicians Institute Certificate or Degree program (MI Select and Select Express are not eligible).
  • New Students:
    • Scholarship applicants must apply to an audio program at MI and have submitted the Admissions Application to be considered for a scholarship.
    • Applicant must have completed federal financial aid application by the appropriate due date.
  • Continuing students:
    • Must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA to apply.

PROVISIONS

  • The total scholarship amount will be divided by the total number of quarters in the particular program and credited toward each quarter’s tuition in equal amounts for as long as the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.
  • The total scholarship amount will be commiserated to the number of units the student is taking in an audio program
  • Scholarships are non-transferable, and may not be applied to any person, program or start date other than the one for which it was awarded.
  • Continuing students may re-apply, but only twice per program.

  • Essay #1: Explain your financial need for the Audio Engineering Development Scholarship.

HARDSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

The MI Hardship Scholarship is awarded to qualified applicants who are currently enrolled in the MI Certificate, AA Degree, or BM Degree programs and who need additional assistance towards the end of their program.  This award is based on current academic standing, position within a program, financial need, and essay submission.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Available only to students enrolled in a Certificate, Associate, or Bachelor program (Select and Select Express programs are not eligible).
  • Only available to continuing students. Students must apply in their second to last or last quarter for consideration.
  • Eligibility is determined by a combination of demonstrated financial need, academic standing (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75) and the quality and content of the scholarship essay.
  • Student’s tuition balance along with available scholarship funds and other factors will be considered to determine the award amount.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Scholarship applicants must apply to a program at MI and have submitted the Admissions Application to be considered for a scholarship.
  • Students must apply for and accept all other student aid for which he/she is eligible prior to applying for a Hardship Scholarship. Hardship Scholarship award may not be used to replace student aid funding.
  • This is a one-time award applied as tuition credit to the upcoming quarter’s balance of your certificate or degree program (Select and Select Express programs are not eligible).
  • Scholarships are non-transferable, and may not be applied to any person, program or start date other than the one for which it was awarded.
  • This scholarship cannot be combined with any other scholarships offered at MI, other than the Open House Scholarship. If a student receives another scholarship from MI, which is higher in amount, the student will forfeit this scholarship.

INTERNATIONAL MUSICIANS MERIT SCHOLARSHIP

Musicians Institute has created the International Musicians Merit Scholarship specifically to assist advanced musicians from outside the United States with their educational development.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Available to International students with a valid F-1 visa only.
  • May be applied to Certificate or Degree in Guitar, Bass, Vocal, Drum, or Keyboard Performance programs or Degree in Music Composition program. (MI Select and MI Select Express programs are not eligible.)
  • Available to newly enrolled students only. 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Scholarship applicants must apply to a program at MI and have submitted the Admissions Application to be considered for a scholarship.   
  • The total scholarship amount will be divided by the total number of quarters in the particular program and credited toward each quarter’s tuition in equal amounts for as long as the student maintains a 2.75 GPA.
  • Scholarships are non-transferable, and may not be applied to any person, program or start date other than the one for which it was awarded.

The Music Business Program Entrepreneur Scholarship was created to recognize and support the creative entrepreneurial ideas and professional aspirations of a newly enrolling student.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Available to international students and U.S. citizens.
  • May only be applied to the Music Business Program.
  • Available to newly enrolled students only. Returning students in any MI program are not eligible.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Scholarship applicants must apply to a program at MI and have submitted the Admissions Application to be considered for a scholarship.
  • Scholarship is credited toward the first quarter of the program as long as the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.

Musicianship Scholarships are available to new and current instrumental students enrolling in the Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Composition, Associate of Arts, or Certificate in Performance Programs.

The scholarship is applicable for students enrolled in instrumental performance programs and composition only, and may not be transferred to a non-performance program emphases (Audio Engineering, Music Business, Independent Artist, Guitar Craft, or Film) within an AA or Bachelor degree.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Available to International Students and US Citizens.
  • May be applied to Certificate or Degree in Guitar, Bass, Vocal, Drum, or Keyboard Performance programs or Degree in Music Composition program. (MI Select and MI Select Express programs are not eligible.)
  • Available to newly enrolled students and current continuing students.

REQUIREMENTS

INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH SCHOLARSHIP

International Outreach Scholarships are now available to new students who apply during their MI International Outreach live audition. This is a unique opportunity for our international outreach students, and no separate application will be required.

OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP

The Opportunity Scholarship is awarded to NEW students that qualify for Financial Aid and enroll in a Certificate, AA Degree, or BM Degree program. This scholarship is based on verifiable financial need, and essay submission.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Must be a Domestic student and using Federal Student Aid.
  • Available to NEW students only
  • Available to dependent students, as determined by the FAFSA, whose parents have applied and have been denied a parent PLUS Loan. (Dependent students with an approved PLUS Loans are disqualified automatically) Students whose parents decline the Parent loan will not be considered.
  • Must be enrolling in Certificate, Associate, or Bachelor program. (Select Express and Masters programs are not eligible).

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have completed a FAFSA and all financial aid requirements for the year of enrollment. Financial aid recipient must have verifiable financial need, and accept all aid offered.
  • Must be accepted into qualified program.
  • Must submit a one-Page Essay explaining your financial hardship and how MI can help your future financially . Include your goals, and any other factors you may consider relevant.

AWARD

Scholarship Amount:
Up to $1,500 If enrolled in 12 units or more
Up to $750 If enrolled for less than 12 units (no less than 6)

Total scholarship amount will be divided by the total number of quarters for standard length of program, and credited toward each quarter’s tuition in equal amounts for as long as the student maintains satisfactory academic progress.

  • Scholarships do not have a cash value, therefore will be adjusted if if a credit balance is created.
  • Scholarship is non-transferable.
  • Scholarship may be combined with other scholarships offered at MI not to exceed $2,000-$3,000 depending on enrollment status (½-time vs. full-time).
  • Scholarship will be reversed for any quarter that is not completed at the time of withdrawal or termination from program.

N.W. DIBLE FOUNDATION SONGWRITING SCHOLARSHIP

The N.W. Dible Foundation Songwriting Scholarship was created to support and acknowledge MI students who can demonstrate exceptional songwriting ability in any genre. Applicants must submit two original songs with lyrics that they have written.

Open to all newly enrolling and current MI students at the AA and Bachelor’s level.

AWARD

  • The total scholarship award will be $1,000 credited toward the first quarter of the program.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Available to international students and U.S. citizens.
  • May be applied to any MI program at the AA or B.M. level.
  • Newly enrolling and current/returning students in any MI program are eligible.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Scholarship applicants must have submitted the Application for Admissions by the scholarship application deadline.

STEVE ROBINSON METAL OF HONOR VETERAN’S PERFORMANCE SCHOLARSHIP

The Steve Robinson Metal of Honor Veterans Performance Scholarship (sponsored by The Rockstar Mayhem Festival’s Metal of Honor Program) was created to directly encourage and support the educational growth of a (newly enrolling or currently enrolled) US Military veteran (all branches) in any on campus Performance Program at Musicians Institute.

AWARD

  • The total scholarship amount will be $1,000 credited towards the first quarter’s tuition.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Available to international students and U.S. citizens.
  • May be applied to any Music Artist Performance Program (newly enrolling or currently enrolled Bass, Guitar, Drums, Vocals or Keyboard students only).
  • Previous winners of this scholarship are not eligible.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Scholarship applicants must have submitted the Application for Admissions by the scholarship application deadline.
  • Awardee must maintain enrollment at 12 units (fulltime status) during the full length of award period. Failure to maintain enrollment and satisfactory academic progress in the program for the full duration of the scholarship will result in withdrawal of the award.
  • Scholarships are nontransferable, and may not be applied to any person, program or start date other than the one for which it was awarded.

APPLICATION CHECKLIST

  • YouTube video URL: YouTube video must contain at a minimum: three (3) diverse songs (in any style on your instrument/voice). It is required that this include two (2) ensemble (live band or duo, and/or pre-recorded play-along tracks format) performances; and one (1) unaccompanied solo (or a capella) performance (No play-along tracks will be accepted for the solo piece). You may use electric and/or acoustic instruments. You must be able to demonstrate overall outstanding musicianship, and demonstrate the ability to excel in any style or genre of your choosing on your instrument (or voice).
  • You must be a (newly enrolling or currently enrolled) US Military veteran (all branches welcome) at Musicians Institute.

THE MUSICIANS FOUNDATION HELPING HAND SCHOLARSHIP

Helping Hand Scholarship Program: Criteria

The goal of the Helping Hand Scholarship Program is to help alleviate some of the financial strain that continuing students face and assist them with scholarship support (in the form of tuition discounts).

The Helping Hand Scholarship Program is generously funded by the Pat Hicks Founders Endowment, and is provided to support and invest in continuing A.A., B.M. and M.M. degree students at Musicians Institute who have demonstrated academic achievement and financial need.

Helping Hand Scholarship Program Conditions and Policies

  1. Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  2. Students must enroll in a minimum of 12 credits and maintain enrollment at 12 units (full time status) during the full length of award period. Failure to maintain enrollment and satisfactory academic progress in the program for the full duration of the scholarship will result in withdrawal of the award.
  3. Students must demonstrate financial need; to be verified by MI.

The Helping Hand Scholarship is awarded to qualified applicants who are currently enrolled in MI’s A.A. Degree, B.M. or M.M. Degree programs and is based on verifiable financial need, current academic standing, and essay submission.

AWARD

  • Scholarship Amount: Ranges between $1,000 – $2,000 (One time award for current or next contiguous quarter’s tuition balance as applicable.) Ten Scholarships available.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Enrolled currently in any MI on-campus AA Degree, BM or Master’s Degree program.
  • Must have verifiable financial need.
  • Available to all Associate, Bachelor or Master’s program students who have completed at least one quarter in the same program for which they are applying for the Helping Hand Scholarship.
  • Available to international students and U.S. citizens.
  • Eligibility is determined by a combination of demonstrated financial need, academic standing (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75) and the quality and content of the scholarship essay.
  • Student’s tuition balance along with available scholarship funds and other factors will be considered to determine the amount of the award.
  • Previous winners of this scholarship are not eligible.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Scholarship applicants must be currently enrolled at MI, and in good standing.
  • Students must apply for and accept all other student aid for which he/she is eligible prior to applying for the Helping Hand Scholarship. Helping Hand Scholarship awards may not be used to replace student aid funding.

The Melodic Soloing Scholarship was created to recognize and support the creative skills, talent, tone and taste required to play improvised melodic guitar solos in any style. The scholarship is generously funded by an MI Guitar Program alumnus (GIT class of 1980) and is provided to encourage and support the educational growth of an AA or B.M. or M.M. Performance (Guitar) program student.

The scholarship will be awarded twice annually to newly enrolling and current/returning guitar students who demonstrate outstanding musicianship, and expresses their own unique melodic voice as a soloist on the instrument in any musical style.

AWARD

  • Award is $2,250.00 tuition towards the first/next contiguous quarter of the program.

THE MUSICIANS FOUNDATION BACHELOR OF MUSIC IN SONGWRITING AND PRODUCTION SCHOLARSHIP

The Musicians Foundation Scholarships were created to recognize and support the creative skills, talent, overall musicianship and dedication of MI students. The scholarship is generously funded by the Pat Hicks Founders Endowment, and is provided to encourage and support the educational growth of a B.M. in Songwriting and Production Program student, and acknowledge students who can demonstrate exceptional songwriting ability in any genre.

AWARD

  • Award is $10,000.00 tuition credit applied to the first two quarters (or next contiguous quarter for current students) of the program ($5,000 per quarter)

ELIGIBILITY

  • Available to international students and U.S. citizens.
  • Newly enrolling and current/returning students are eligible.
  • May only be applied to the B.M. in Songwriting and Production Program.
  • Previous winners of this scholarship are not eligible.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Scholarship applicants must have submitted the Application for Admissions by the scholarship application deadline.
  • Scholarships are nontransferable, and may not be applied to any person, program or start date other than the one for which it was awarded.
  • Awardee must maintain enrollment at 12 units (full time status) during the full length of award period. Failure to maintain enrollment and satisfactory academic progress in the program for the full duration of the scholarship will result in withdrawal of the award.

THE MUSICIANS FOUNDATION BACHELOR OF MUSIC - MUSIC COMPOSITION FOR VISUAL MEDIA SCHOLARSHIP

The Musicians Foundation Scholarships were created to recognize and acknowledge exceptional MI students who can clearly articulate their professional goals in the music industry, and submit two original songs for visual media in any genre that they have either composed and/or produced, and/or arranged.

The scholarship is generously funded by the Pat Hicks Founders Endowment, and is provided to encourage and support the educational growth of a B.M. in Music Composition in Visual Media Program student.

AWARD

  • Award is $10,000.00 tuition credit applied to the first two quarters (or next contiguous quarter for current students) of the program ($5,000 per quarter)

ELIGIBILITY

  • Available to international students and U.S. citizens.
  • May only be applied to the B.M. in Music Composition Program.
  • Newly enrolling and current/returning students are eligible.

You must include explain your specific contribution(s) to the material submitted.
  • YouTube Video URL 2: Video of you clearly explaining why you should be considered for the Scholarship. Include your career goals, business ideas/plans, and any other factors you consider relevant. You must also explain what you are primarily looking to improve upon by studying in MI’s Composition Program. Maximum length is 3 minutes, spoken voice only no performance footage is accepted. Videos that exceed 3 minutes will not be considered.

The Musicians Foundation Scholarships were created to recognize and acknowledge exceptional MI students who demonstrate overall outstanding musicianship, and the ability to excel in any style or genre on their (instrument or voice) enrolling (or currently enrolled) in the MI Master of Music in Performance Studies Program at Musicians Institute. The Musicians Foundation Scholarships were created to recognize and support the creative skills, talent, overall musicianship and dedication of MI Online Performance Program students.

The scholarship is generously funded by the Pat Hicks Founders Endowment, and is provided to encourage and support the educational growth of students (newly enrolling or currently enrolled) in any MI Online Performance Program who demonstrate outstanding musicianship and expertise on the instrument in any musical style or combination of styles.  Five scholarships are available (one per instrument program).

AWARD

  • The total scholarship amount will be $1,000 credited towards the first quarter’s tuition.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Available to international students and U.S. citizens.
  • May be applied to any MI Online Music Artist Performance Program (newly enrolling or currently enrolled Bass, Guitar, Drums, Vocals or Keyboard students only).

The scholarship is generously funded by the Pat Hicks Founders Endowment, and is provided to encourage and support the educational growth of students (newly enrolling or currently enrolled) in MI Online Songwriting, IA and APE Programs who demonstrate outstanding talent as a Songwriter, Independent Artist and/or Producer in any musical style or combination of styles. Three scholarships are available (one per program).

  • Available to international students and U.S. citizens.

The Musicians Foundation Scholarships were created to recognize and support the creative skills, talent and dedication of MI Online Music Business, Studio Recording and Electronic Music Production Program students.

The scholarship is generously funded by the Pat Hicks Founders Endowment, and is provided to encourage and support the educational growth of a new or returning student in the MI Online Music Business, Studio Recording and Electronic Music Production Program who can clearly articulate their career goals in the music industry, as well as why they should be considered for the scholarship in a 500-word written essay. Three scholarships are available (one per program).

AWARD

  • The total scholarship award will be $1,000 credited toward the first quarter of the program.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Available to international students and U.S. citizens.
  • May only be applied to the MI Online Music Business, Studio Recording, and Electronic Music Production Program.

Please read below for some general Information about all of the MI scholarships:

Scholarship Amounts and Method of Award

  • Scholarships are awarded in the form of tuition credit only.
  • The total award amount will be determined after a review of your application.
  • The total award amount is divided by the number of quarters in your program and credited equally toward each quarter’s tuition (except MI Hardship Scholarship; which is a one-time award).

Application and Notification

  • MI Scholarships are available only to students enrolling in a new program. Before you may submit a scholarship application, you must have a Letter of Acceptance from MI’s Admission Department.
  • Scholarship applications are available from the Financial Aid Office or Admissions Department or by download from this site.
  • Completed applications submitted by the appropriate deadline will be reviewed and applicants will be notified of the results within two weeks after the deadline.

Other Information

  • All scholarships are non-transferable and may not be applied to any person, program, or start date other than those for which they were originally awarded.
  • Scholarship recipients who fail to meet minimum academic requirements during their enrollment will forfeit any remaining award balance (see scholarship applications for specific requirements).
